“Sang” is a veneration for gods,while “Kuriang” means phantoms or the gods that descend to earth.Originating from the Sunda people in Java of Indonesia,The story Sangkuriang is widely spread with great representativeness,and is widely known in Indonesia.It is also one of the classic stories concerned by the international folklore field.Sangkuriang is a classic tale with a Oedipus-style,which tells a story of the protagonist Sangkuriang,who kills his biological father as a dog,falls in love with his mother and proposes to her afterwards,but fails at last.The story has been circulating among the people for a long time,and there are variations with local characters in different regions.The information such as locations,characters,plots,motifs and types of this story varies a lot due to regional differences.Firstly,the author collects and reorganizes nine typical variations of this story Sangkuriang.Secondly,the main plots,motifs and types of this story are compared and analyzed with the method of comparative analysis,so as to find that in the similarities and differences of each variation,which not only reflect the variations and new elements of the story in the spread process,but also maintain the original style and features.At last,through the exploration,the author finds that the oral nature,anonymity,geography,as well as foreign religions and cultural influences are the fundamental causes of the differences.
