An E-C Translation Report Of Interests Offering And Risk Memorandum From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

Against the background of globalization of trade,the translation of documents related to business investment and trade has become increasingly important.Such documents usually cover specialized fields and bear a relatively high level of professionalism.How to properly achieve the linguistic transformation and equivalence in legal function is still the current focus and difficulty of legal translation.At present,the translation quality of legal texts is uneven as the translation theory in this area is still lacking and standardized translation criteria have not yet been formulated.Therefore,it is worthwhile to pursue more translation studies of such texts.This translation report selects 10,000 words from the private placement memorandum of one enterprise's business plan concerning interests offering and risk memorandum as research objects,aiming to explore the solutions to the problems in the translation process under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory and explore more translation theories and strategies that apply to such texts.This report consists of five chapters: Chapter one introduces the background,requirements and process of a translation task as well as the structure of this translation report.Chapter two is a rather detailed description of the Functional Equivalence theory and its application in legal texts.Chapter three analyzes the characteristics of the source text at the lexical and syntactic levels.Chapter four,by citing examples from the source text,elaborates on the problems encountered in the translation process and corresponding solutions adopted from the aspects of vocabulary and syntax under the guidance of Functional Equivalence theory.Chapter five is a brief summary concerning this translation project,aiming to provide reference and inspiration for the translation studies of texts of a similar kind.
