Before World War II,Japanese Americans had a negative image in the United States because of American xenophobia. After the Pearl Harbor Attacked, influenced by national security and public' racial hatred of Nikkei,President Roosevelt issued Executive Order No.9066,ordered Nikkei relocate eastward. On March 18,1942,President Roosevelt signed Executive Order No.9102 establishing the War Relocation Authority as a temporary department to assist army dealing with the Nikkei problems. After contacting with Nikkei, the staff of the War Relocation Authority believed that most Japanese Americans were loyal.Since the failure of their relocation plan, they tried to improve living conditions and implement democratic management in relocation centers. In order to alleviate the hostility of the public to them, the War Relocation Authority promoted the social image of Japanese Americans by films, photos, working outside and army enlistment,so they could come back to normal life and enjoy civil rights as soon as possible.Because the War Relocation Authority did an unprecedented job in American history, despite their careful handling of the Nikkei problems, problems continue to arise. There were three crises in the process of managing more than 110,000 Japanese people, among which the Tule Lake crisis had the most unprecedented influence. The media distorted the facts, destroyed the image of Nikkei and questioned the management of the War Relocation Authority, which led to the stagnation of the relocation of Nikkei. The War Relocation Authority actively cooperated with investigation, holding hearings to clarify the truth, continuing fighting with racists, breaking the barriers that hinder the relocation of Nikkei gradually. Finally, relocation of Nikkei was finished as scheduled. The rapid integration of Japanese Americans into the mainstream society of the United States after the war, there's no doubt that their great achievements owe to their own efforts. However,in terms of the Americanization of Japanese Americans and the promotion of their social image, the efforts of the War Relocation Authority cannot be ignored.During the period of detention, the War Relocation Authority put aside racial prejudice, treat them in a humanitarian way, help them enter American society, let the Nikkei suffering from discrimination see a glimmer of hope in the dark period,at the same time,we can see that the American government did not deviate from democratic principles completely during the war.
