Qutan Temple,constructed under support of Ming Dynasty government,is a Tibetan Buddhism temple featured with Han ethnic royal style of ancient China.It is the most completely preserved construction complex of government style in early Ming Dynasty in Northwestern China,gaining its name for majestic construction and murals in the world.The Tibetan-Han style mural is the most important relics of mural arts from Ming Dynasty to Qing Dynasty.And the mural art itself,as an important Chinese traditional painting style,provides resources for us to learn and understand outstanding traditional cultures of ancient time.This thesis,by inspecting and researching Qutan Temple,regards animal figures in murals as main observing targets to calculate and categorize.It sorts out the types of animals appearing in the Qutan temple murals and draw conclusion on their functions and transferring information.Through depicting the figures own characteristic and the correlation between the figures,this thesis resets and rebuilds a subjective correlations between figures,forming widely people's connected common sense.With combination of analysis and comparison,this thesis classifies mural study into traditional painting study field and discusses animal figure characteristics,paining method and painting techniques,etc,from the perspective of painting ontology language.It explores the cultural sources and artistry.It answers questions such as how Qutan temple forms its own artistry against the backdrop of the integration of Han and Tibetan cultures by comparison method.Thematic research on Qutan temple animal figures' source and comparison study expand the research scope of Qutan temple's mural study,demonstrates development and evolution of Han ethic painting style in Tibetan area.It discovers how Han and Tibetan arts influence Qutan temple murals,which means the murals inherit the history of traditional mural painting system,and in the same time,they form a Han-Tibetan artistry with a kind of obvious regional style...
