Religion, a special form of culture in the history of the human society, is an integral part of traditional culture. Religious culture also has a profound and far-reaching influence on the development of art. In order to promote the thoughts of its doctrine, Buddhist temples often choose to express the stories of Buddhism with images, which are very intuitive. Therefore, there come a large number of mural paintings in Buddhist temples, which play a very important part in the development of Chinese art.Although they can’t compare with the Tang and Song Dynasties, mural paintings of Ming Dynasty were also attached great importance by the ruling class for their own benefits. A large number of temples were built then, leading to a wide distribution of Buddhist temple mural paintings in Ming Dynasty and the geographical features is also relatively distinct. Besides, having inherited the mural art achievements during the Song and Yuan period, temple mural paintings in Ming Dynasty were still influential. Temple mural art is the mainstream of the mural art in Ming Dynasty, and the Ming dynasty saw a boom of the Tibetan buddhist art in Tibet and mainland. this makes a significant feature of Ming dynasty Buddhist art is the incorporation of Exotoric Buddhism and Esoteric Buddhism, Qinghai Ledu Qutan Monastery murals show the special phenomenon that keeps the Chinese Buddhism spread stories and Tibetan Buddhism statues together.Qutan Monastery is a Tibetan buddhist temple with the Han style, it was the emperor who ordered the construction of this building in the early Ming Dynasty. Although Qutan Monastery was in poor neighborhoods, Its epic scale is breathtaking, there is a popular sentence among local people, that is "If you have visited Qutan Monastery, there is no need to go to Beijing". Qutan Monastery is one of the few well-preserved temples which contains building, frescoes and sculpture, these three features accompany with perfect combination of Sino-Tibetan style made it special among so many Tibetan temples. Besides, it is worth lucubrating the integrity and delicacy of the frescoes. This text will focus on the research of artistic characteristics and image styles about part of ambulatory in Ming Dynasty and temple murals.
