Qutan Temple,built in the early Ming Dynasty,was a product of cultural exchanges and fusion between Han and Tibetans.The content of the murals in Qutan Temple is a fusion of the two art forms of Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism,and combines the artistic characteristics of Han in the way of expression,such as the image of the characters,the clothing and the Han Chinese landscape paintings on the background of the screen,etc..This way of blending is not only a simple combination of artistic styles.It is also a process of absorbing,correcting,and tolerating the two cultures of Han and Tibetan.At the same time,it has also become a typical case of cultural and artistic exchange and integration between Han and Tibetan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.It is a result of cross-cultural exchange and integration,and also a manifestation of acceptance of diversified artistic elements.It has a profound impact on the integration of Han and Tibetan art in later generations and the art of the surrounding areas.Based on the in-depth study of Qutan Temple’s mural art,this article takes the cultural and artistic exchanges between Han and Tibetan as the main research goal,takes Qutan Temple’s mural art as the research object,and combines the historical background,architecture and mural art characteristics of Qutan Temple to make an in-depth analysis and comparison.Qutan Temple murals embody the imprint of the cultural and artistic exchanges and fusion between Han and Tibetan in the composition,character modeling,expression form,drawing technique,decorative pattern,color expression,and time and space concepts.It reveals the influence of Qutan Temple as a royal temple on the surrounding temples,the influence on the surrounding art schools,and the integration of Han-Tibetan culture and art promoted by the exchanges between artisans,so as to further explore the embodiment of the multi-cultural characteristics in the murals.
