Based on the translation of the English Biography of Over My Head, this report summarizes the problems in the process of translation. The author of this biographical text highlights the feature of literariness by using a large number of rhetorical devices and expressions containing implied meanings. It is the difficult point of this translation practice to represent this feature because of the differences between Chinese and western modes of thinking and cultural backgrounds. The representation of literariness in this translation practice can be divided into the translation of figure of speech and that of implied meanings. The former includes three types: personification, alliteration and rhyme, and metaphor, while the latter focus on the translation in linguistic context, situational context and cultural context. At the same time, the translation strategy of domestication, methods including literal translation and free translation, and techniques including addition and extension are adopted to represent the literariness in the process of translation. The translation practice offers a chance for the translator to better understand biographical texts as well as to improve translation skills, which lay a firm foundation for the future similar translation practice. It is expected that this practice would provide a new reading material for those who are interested in the biographical text about exploration and this report would provide some references for translators working on the texts of the same type.
