The Tale of Genji is a classic work of Japanese literature written by the noblewoman and lady-in-waiting Murasaki Shikibu in the early years of the 11thcentury.Just as A dream in Red Mansins is called "Hongxue" in China,The Tale of Genji is also called "Yuanxue".It,s said that Xie Liuyi,a Chinese,is the first scholar who introduced The Tale of Genji to China by writing a book The History of Japanese Literature.Around 1980s,with the publishment of the first translation version by Feng Zikai,a new nationwide upsurge of studying The Tale of Genji has begun.Over these 90 years in China,the study of The Tale of Genji is mostly focused on three aspects:thematic theory,comparative literature and research history.In regards to research history,most studies start from the first version(1980-1983)by Feng Zikai.In the past,many scholars have made huge contribution to "Hongxue"However,by searching in the database,not only on piece of works are found before 1980s.Since it's limited research scope,it is hard to grasp the whole picture and character of The Tale of Genji.In view of this situation,this paper strives to study papers,books,translations,scholars,publications during the Republic of China era,especially from 20s-40s as well as early years of New China.By studying from these aspects,this thesis will research on how scholars studied The Tale of Genji in different circumstances(the Republic of China era and early years of New China).This part could be the first of its kind in China.And on this basis,by sorting the process of Qian Daosun's translation version in early years of New China,this paper will make an investigation on which book he referred to so as to have a deeper understanding of Monogatari literature even Classical-Japanese literature.This paper includes four chapters.In the first chapter,in order to compare the difference and characteristic between home and abroad,the data gathered from Japan and China will be analyzed.The second chapter will focus especially on the study of works and papers during the Republic of China era.There are more than eight pieces of works that were found during this period.The third chapter follows the second.Even though there's only one chapter Kiritsubo of Qian Daosun's translation version was left,Qian Daosun's translation still has a huge influence in China.To clarify which books he referred to,the process of Qian Daosun's translation will be combed.Last chapter summarizes the full text and points out the innovation points and the limitation of this paper.And it will be the further research direction.As for the research methods,this paper mainly adopts textual research method which is commonly used in historical studies.It reviews the relevant research papers from the Republic of China era to the New China.In terms of the data collection,this paper makes maximum use of Japanese Classical Literature Library Database,the National Diet Library Digital Collection and the CNBKSY.
