Starting From <Cloud>

In the early 1980 s,with the end of the "Cultural Revolution" in Mainland China,the whole country,including Taiwan,was placed in a new historical purpose and narrative logic.Chen Yingzhen,a Taiwan left-wing writer,was also,inevitably,at the very edge of “great changes” in history.What was paradoxical,however,was that the "study of Chen Yingzhen",which was in endless summoning by the "left wing",has been intentionally or unintentionally "erasing” ten years for Chen Yingzhen.The study of the writer,which started in the 1970 s,somewhat remained aloof from him in the 1980s: both Taiwan scholars,who had anxiety about “Taiwan independence”,and those in the Mainland,who were concerned about certain “stressful elements”,took a rather “conservative” approach for the writer in the 1980 s,who was actually in the center of a storm.However,with Chen's shift to thoughts of critique in the mid-1980 s,he again was included in the context of the Cross-Strait relations,where most studies have "ingeniously" defined Chen in the whole 1980 s as a "complete left-wing".In 2017,"Complete Works of Chen Yingzhen" was published in Taiwan,in which his articles written around 1980 makes it difficult to define all his thinking and creation after the 1980 s as "leftist".Therefore,the author believes that the key to understanding the above questions lies in how to understand his "stressed" adjustment in 1980 in face of the collapse of the "great truth" into "the ordinary dust." The core issue of such adjusted responses constitutes Chen Yingzhen's “continued,recurring starting point” throughout the 1980 s.It is precisely because of the complexity of such “starting points” and Chen's continuous thinking that his core concern – Mainland ChinaTaiwan – demonstrates unique qualities.In this sense,based on the above understanding of this issue,this thesis centers on Chen's novel "Cloud" published in August 1980 as the core text,and analyzes how Chen Yingzhen started the "first step" of his adjustment in 1980 and the content of the adjustment,through the entanglement between the author,who is subtly “objectified”,and the protagonist of the novel,and multiple "contradictory elements" in the text.From the opinion of the author,the “first step” can also be the very beginning of “reinterpreting” Chen Yingzhen in the 1980 s.
