The source text is from the Center for Strategic and International Studies,a think tank of the United States. It is composed of more than 13,000 English words and is divided into ten chapters.Being related to marine science and technology, the text mainly studies the future trends of the sustainable development of the Arctic and the challenges, opportunities and new approaches of the cooperation between China and the United States in the Arctic. From a perspective of the“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation"(CEA)framework proposed by Professor Li Changshuan, the author completes the translation of the original text.Belonging to marine sci-tech text, the original text features strong logic and rigorous language;has a large number of marine proper nouns and specific expressions;implies a large amount of background knowledge;and there are some long and difficult sentences with complex structure in the original text. The author solved some specific problems in the process of translation. In the translation of technical terms, the author looks up dictionaries and related literature to make the translation as accurate as possible;in dealing with the background knowledge, the author consults the relevant references for international situation to make the translation plain and easy to understand;for the long and difficult sentences in the text, the author divides them into several short ones to avoid "translationese"and make the translation more in line with the Chinese usage according to the CEA framework.Through this translation practice, the author realizes that in order to do a good job in the translation of marine sci-tech texts, first of all,the translator needs certain framework as guidance;secondly, the translator has to understand the relevant background knowledge and master certain translation skills to be made use of;finally, due to the limited research on the translation of marine sci-tech texts in China, this translation project aims to further explore and study the translation methods of marine sci-tech texts.
