| With the rapid development of petroleum economy,the importance of petrochemical English is becoming increasingly significant,and texts on petrochemical industry are emerging in an endless stream.Therefore,it is noticeable that exchange and cooperation in the international petrochemical industry can be promoted by high-quality translation.Thus,accurate translation of petrochemical texts is of great significance.This English-Chinese translation practice report is based on The Chemistry and Technology of Petroleum(Chapter 8).Under the guidance of the framework of“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”,the difficulties encountered in translation are analyzed.In the Comprehension phrase,the report concentrates on the understanding difficulties from lexical,syntactic and discourse levels,which includes the comprehension of technical terms,ordinary words,abbreviations,long and difficult sentences,separation structures,passive sentences and the logical relation.In the Expression phrase,it is noticeable to use words precisely and flexibly and avoid Europeanized Chinese in order to achieve accurate conversion of the content and form.In the Adaptation phrase,translation techniques including addition,omission,shift,division and combination,are adopted to achieve word accuracy,sentence smoothness and textual coherence,thus accurately conveying the information of the source language and creating better reading experience for target readers.It is hopeful that this report will enrich the application of the framework of“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation” in petrochemical texts,and also provide English-Chinese information on petrochemical composition to the workers in the field of petrochemical industry. |
