A Study Of The Ancient Seals From Xinjiang

Xinjiang has a vast geographical area and rich ancient relics.Since the end of the19 th century,a large number of seals have been unearthed.These seals are an important part of the exhibition history of China’s seals,which are of great quantity,various forms and rich contents.At the end of the 19 th century and the beginning of the 20 th century,most of the seals unearthed in xinjiang were plundered abroad due to foreign explorers’ rampant excavations of precious cultural relics in xinjiang and the destruction of archaeological relics.On the one hand,the seals unearthed in xinjiang from the warring states period up to the Ming and qing dynasties are the witness of the official system and historical culture in the ancient western regions,which are of great historical value.On the other hand,the unique artistic value of the unearthed seals in xinjiang deserves more attention from the academic circle.At present,although some progress has been made in the study of the ancient seals unearthed in xinjiang,the research results are still fragmented,and there are few studies on the systematic overall summary and archaeology of the ancient seals unearthed in xinjiang.The author in the comprehensive statistics and finishing excavated in xinjiang,on the basis of all previous dynasties seals,screened 133 pieces surface clear,and shape a complete seal as the research object,carries on the system of review and summarize,the representative of the three types of graphics seal,using the artistic archaeology method,from the perspective of image,makes the dynastic study.The purpose of this paper is to outline the historical development of the unearthed seals in xinjiang,explore and analyse the application of the seals escacated in xinjiang,summarize the nature and characteristics of the unearthed seals in xinjiang,and reveal the central plains culture,nomadic culture of ethnic minorities,ancient Greek culture and Indian buddhism cultural factors of the unearthed seals in xinjiang.Finally,it comes to the conclusion that the unearthed seals in xinjiang take the central plains culture of the han nationality as the main trend gradually and other multi-cultural factors coexist.
