Study On The Ancient Seals Of The Three Jin Dynasty

The presentation of ideas in pieces of seal carving and the varieties of Chinese characters are divided eleven varieties from the perspective of seal carving art in the first part of the thesis.The causes are explored and found mainly in two aspects in the formation of the carving style.Firstly,the Chinese character forms in SanJin Dynasty are variable.Secondly,the bronze-casting technique is highly developed in the Spring and Autumn period(770-476BC).Influences on the later generations are essentially analyzed in the second chapter.Ancient and royal seals began to attract attention with their increasing excavation and the gradual upgrade of paleography in Yuan and Ming Dynasty,together with the scholars’ participation into the creation of seal carving.Later in Qin Dynasty,Chinese seal textology became more prosperous and collection of ancient and royal seals became a common practice and prevailed,and more collection of impressions of seals by famous seal engravers apppeared.Therefore,more and more seal engravers became influenced by SanJin Dynasty ancient and royal seal carvings,such as Huang Mufu,Zhu Fukan,Wu Putang etc.The influence of SanJin Dynasty ancient and royal seal carvings upon modern seal carving are mainly reflected in the special exhibition of seal engraving.Last but not least,some subtle cognition of SanJin Dynasty ancient and royal seal carvings are expounded,combined with the writer’s research into the SanJin Dynasty ancient and royal seal carving and his creative practice.
