"Ideology" is a core category of Eagleton's theory of thought and its symbolic symbol.Eagleton inherited Marx's discourse on the theory of ideology, integrated previous understandings of ideology, and formed a unique theory of ideology.Based on the principle of dialectical relationship between economic base and superstructure,Eagleton insists on examining ideology from the perspectives of epistemological paradigm and sociological paradigm, and regards human liberation as the ultimate goal of his theory. It is pointed out that ideology exists as a superstructure,a "false" reflection on social existence, and adheres to the Marxist reflection theory.Through the study of social reality and theoretical issues,he unearthed the essence of the intersection of ideology and political power and class rule, highlighting the class and political nature of his ideology theory. He regards literature and aesthetics as the carrier of ideology, infiltrates ideology in a hidden way such as literature and aesthetics, and plays a role in the dissemination of ideology. This paper is divided into five chapters to discuss the basic characteristics of Eagleton's ideology theory,in order to grasp the ideology theory more comprehensively.Although Eagleton's ideology theory ignores the relationship between science and technology and ideology and lacks specific steps and measures to achieve theoretical goals, the in-depth study of his ideology theory is still valuable. This is not only conducive to enriching and developing Marxist ideology theory, but also has important guiding significance and reference value for us to carry out contemporary ideology construction.
