A Translation Project Report On Aircraft Operating Lease Agreement(Excerpts)

With the continuous development of the world economy,the aircraft leasing industry has a great development prospects in the future.With the increase in the business contact of international aircraft leasing,the demand of a more formal,standardized Chinese-English bilingual lease agreement for the international aircraft leasing companies will gradually increase at the same time.Aircraft lease agreement is a type of the contract text.The contract text,has legal effect,with formal and solemn language,is difficult to translate in a certain degree because it is required very strictly that the translation must meet high standards for the practical application.Therefore,the translation of aircraft lease text is chosen for research in this project.This thesis takes the translation of the A320 Series Aircraft Operating Lease Agreement as an example to mainly discuss the problems of the discourse coherence and cohesion in the translation of the contract text.Firstly,it analyses the significant features of the contract text and the difficulty encountered in translating the cohesive devices of the contract text.Based on this,it teases out the research overview of the development of discourse cohesion and the comparative study between English and Chinese discourses,and further summarizes the cohesive devices in English and Chinese.Through the translation of the practice text,this thesis discusses the translation difficulties of the English cohesive devices which is mainly encountered in translation.And on the basis of the classification of the cohesive devices,it summarizes the cohesive devices: reference,substitution,collocation and reiteration,in the English contract text by referring to the concrete example and then analyzes the translation of the cohesive devices in Chinese cohesive devices: reiteration and repetition,which made the translation more coherent.Then,some practical translation strategies and methods are put forward for the translation of the contract text,such as literal translation and free translation,and the establishment of the termbase and corpus,which would provide a reference for the author's future translation practice.
