With the development of Chinese economy and promotion of its international status,more and more foreign students come to China to learn Chinese language.It is generally believed that learning motivation is one of the most important affective factors in Second Language Learning.In order to explore the functions of the Learning Motivation,the effect of the learning-effect and analyze the difference of foreigner's motivation in Chinese learning,the study chooses the initial stage students of Donghua University as the subjects to investigate their Learning Motivation to analyze the influence of their Chinese learning.The study is mainly adapted the following four methods: literature analysis,questionnaire,interviews and statistical analysis with an aim of offering some useful suggestions for Chinese teaching and learning.The dissertation is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction of the purpose,target,significance and framework of the study.The second part is the literature review,covering the progress of the overseas and domestic research and summary.Through the ways of questionnaire survey and statistical analysis,part three of the study explores the main situation of Chinese learning motivation of overseas students in the initial stage from the perspective of static description and described the influence of ten motivation factors on Chinese learning of overseas students.Part four consists of face-to-face interviews of the initial foreign students and some well-experienced teachers in Donghua University to explore the dynamic process of the students' Learning Motivation and the main factors which affect the students' Chinese Learning Motivation.Part five is the general conclusion of the study.To illustrate the result of the study and the suggestions of Chinese teaching and learning and point out some deficiencies of the study and further research suggestions.The results show that the learning motivation of foreign students in the primary stage is difference and polarized.Some students who have a strong motivation are usually good Chinese language learners,and vice versa.Most foreign students come to China to learn Chinese with a certain instrumental motivation such as working requirements;traveling to China;housewives,for a better life in China;Parents' demands;Learning Chinese under the influence of others and the difficulties during the Chinese study.In addition,although students usually have strong interesti and good attitude to learning,they are under great stress of their study and the intensity of their study should be consolidated.The main factors influencing Chinese learning motivation of foreign students include the following factors: students' own reasons,teaching attitude,teaching methods,dictation,homework and test scores,effectiveness and interestingness of classroom activities,support from parents and others,and difficulties encountered in learning.
