Learning motivation is the most important affective factor in Chinese learning, which plays a vital role in Chinese learning for foreign students. Therefore, the author hopes to research Chinese learning motivation of the initial stage of foreign students in Anhui University in many aspects, provides referenced suggestions for Chinese teaching.In this paper, based on relevant researches at home and abroad, reference to the domestic and foreign language teaching field, using a variety of methods such as questionnaire researches and interview analysis, studies and analyses the learning motivation of the initial stage of foreign students of Anhui University in static and dynamic cases, analyses differences and characteristics, summarizes influence factors. The aim is to find out the characteristics of the initial stage of foreign students who learn Chinese in Anhui University and put forward effective suggestions, then improve the efficiency and quality of Chinese teaching.The survey finds that, firstly, foreign students’ learning motivation has certain differences in sex, but it is not significant, generally female students’ learning motivation is stronger; secondly, the integrated tendency and positive attitude of non Asian students are more obvious than Asian students, while Asian students’ learning desire is stronger, they not only have good language background, but also have higher evaluation of Chinese teachers; thirdly, there are differences about the foreign students’ learning motivation for different learning times, the motivation of students who have study Chinese less than one year (including one year) is more stronger than those who study Chinese more than one year. Notably, the score of gaining practical or utilitarian purpose is higher than the score of joining in Chinese community, indicates that they think highly of the communication function of Chinese, besides students’ evaluation of Chinese curriculum and the attitude of Chinese people are higher than the evaluation of Chinese teachers, which indicates that our Chinese teachers are competent and dedicated, but also need to improve their quality and charm continuously. At the same time the results of interviews show that, on one hand, less congregate activities and boring classroom activities are the main factors in causing the motivation reduced, the low scores of homework and exams and the unfriendly classmates don’t have obvious effect on learning motivation; on the other hand, the friendly classmates and the fine attitude of Chinese teachers are the most important factors to promote the motivation of foreign students. In addition, some students add that the quality of living environments also has a certain impact on their learning motivation.According to the actual situation of the initial stage of foreign students’ learning motivation, making detailed statistical analysis, summarizing the internal and external factors which affect learning motivation, and proposing detailed inspiring suggestions of learning motivation from five aspects as learners, teachers, teachings, the compilations and selections of textbooks and creating a characteristic culture of our campus, hoping to improve the effects of Chinese learning and teaching, in order to provide some suggestions for the development of international Chinese education.
