Study On Decorated Bricks And Inscription Bricks Unearthed In Southwest China During The Warring States Period,qin And Han Dynasties

Brick is an important building material in ancient China.It is widely used in various buildings.From the perspective of archaeology,the appearance and development of bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions have extremely complicated connotations and meanings.After decades of scientific archaeological work,the rich excavated materials provided new conditions for exploring the evolution of the bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions in the Southwest China.Firstly,This paper combs the discovery,arrangement and research status of the bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions in the Warring States Period and Qin and Han Dynasties since the 1950 s,and defines the research scope,research methods and some concepts.Then on the basis of comprehensive mastery of materials,the previous research results are used as reference and integrated with the regional features,the bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions unearthed in the southwestern region were divided into three zonings.More than one thousand pieces of unearthed-bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions are meticulously divided into sections by typology,and the development and evolution of the bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions were studied in detail.After discussing the evolution rules and characteristics of various types of bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions,the bricks with emblazonries were divided into four development stages:the first period from the end of the Western Han Dynasty to theXinmang period,the second period of the early Eastern Han Dynasty,the third period of the middle Eastern Han Dynasty,and the fourth period of the late Eastern Han Dynasty;the bricks with inscriptions were divided into two development stages:the first period from the end of the Western Han Dynasty to the Xinmang period to the early Eastern Han Dynasty,the second period of the mid-and late period of Eastern Han dynasty.Thus,in the horizontal and vertical dimensions,the development context of the bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions in the Warring States Period and Qin and Han dynasties was preliminarily constructed.In addition,this paper also makes a preliminary discussion on the historical background reflected by the concentrated unearthed areas and the development and evolution of bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions according to the historical documents and believes the concentrated excavation and evolution of bricks with emblazonries and that with inscriptions are closely related to the establishment of prefectures and counties in Southwestern China during the Qin and Han Dynasties,the improvement of brick-making technology and the promotion of Han culture.
