Currently,the current situation of English reading teaching in primary schools is not promising.Teachers overly lay emphasis on linguistic knowledge,which leads to students' misunderstanding of reading.In other words,some students wrongly regard reading as nothing more than memorizing words and understanding every sentence.In the face of an English reading material,students often feel confused.Along with the unceasing advancement of the educational reform,teaching methods also undergo continuous reforms and innovations in English reading teaching of primary schools.in efforts to conform to new curriculum standards.Based on domestic and overseas research theories of English reading teaching with picture books,the research probes into the effects of English picture books' application to English reading teaching in primary schools with literature analysis,questionnaire,test and experimental research as main research techniques.The effects are mainly classified into the following tow aspects:1.Can English picture books improve the English reading ability of students and enhance their grades?2.Which aspects of English reading ability can be improved by using English picture book?Taking 52 students from Class One,Grade Three of Eshan Road Primary school in Liuzhou City,Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as the research object,the research conducted questionnaires,reading test and interviews before and after the experiment respectively,from which the conclusion was drawn as follows:In English reading teaching,students are allowed to express their ideas freely via pictures in those books,thus promoting their understanding of reading materials.Through practices of phonemes and words,great progress has been achieved in terms of pronunciation and vocabulary learning.After mastering reading methods of English picture books,students in the experimental class utilized the skills to analyze questions and read before answering questions so that the accuracy has been enhanced.English picture books are enhancing students' English reading ability about comprehension of new words and long sentences,English pronunciation,vocabulary learning,analyze and answer the question and capable of promoting the English reading scores in primary schools.As a result,teachers are suggested to teach English in virtue of picture books.
