In 1937,the war of resistance against Japan broke out in an all-round way,and in the following year,Wuhan and Guangzhou were successively lost.Under the extremely severe domestic situation,Guilin became a safe residence in the rear area of the war of resistance against Japan.Celebrities from all circles came to Guilin one after another,thus Guilin gained the name "Guilin cultural city".Guilin has gathered a large number of theater celebrities,such as Ouyang Yuqian,Tian Han,Jiao Juyin,Xia Yan,Xiong Foxi,Du Xuan and so on.At the end of 1938,Jiao Juyin came to Guilin and left on October 1941.He had lived there for nearly three years.During three years in Guilin,Jiao held four academic lectures,directed twelve Modern drama and a new opera,acted as a consultant for three performances,adapted a kind of Guangxi opera and translated a work.Guilin period was the beginning of Jiao Juyin's career as a drama director.He not only carried out theoretical research on drama,but also carried out practical exploration on the art of directing,and integrated stanislav sky's drama system into modern drama art,which on the thesis raised the art of directing modern drama to a new level.The thesis takes Jiao Juyin in the cultrual city period as research object.On the basic of liferature,this thesis makes a deep study of his drama theory and director practices,and disscusses about his teoretical and director achevements,as well as the signifieance of Guilin cultural for his theatrical carrerr.The thesis is divided into three parts: introduction,text and conclusion.The introduction introduces the life of Jiao Juyin,the content of Jiao Juyin's drama activities in Guilin cultural city and the relevant research status,as well as the research methods and ideas of this paper.The text consists of three chapters.The first chapter discusses the drama theory of Jiao Juyin in Guilin cultural city.During the period of Guilin,Jiao Juyin wrote 40 theoretical papers on drama,including Composition of the old opera,New exegesis of the old opera,Classes of the old times,Arrangement and improvement of the GUI opera,and Early education of the performers of the GUI opera,Mainly covering the themes of the reform of the old opera,New opera and the reform of the GUI opera.These theoretical papers mainly expound Jiao Juyin's thoughts on the reform of old operas and his other contributions to the reform theory of GUI opera.Among them,Jiao Juyin's article on the composition of old dramas is an important theoretical article on the reform of old dramas.In this article,Jiao Juyin made a detailed study on the utilization,improvement and creation of old dramas,and put forward the concept of "spelling system".As early as 1935,Jiao Juyin roughly mentioned the "spelling system" in his doctoral thesis "Chinese drama today",but in the period of Guilin cultural city,Jiao Juyin studied and discussed this theory in a more systematic and in-depth way.As a "foreign student",Jiao Juyin made use of the theoretical knowledge of traditional Chinese opera he mastered,from "anti-old drama" to drama learning,and combined theory with practice,which promoted the development of Guilin's old drama reform.During the Guilin period,Jiao Juyin not only had theoretical discussions in the field of old drama reform,but also dabble in the theory of drama.During this period,stanislavsky's drama theory system was introduced into China.At a time when most of the Chinese dramatists understanding of the strut system only stay on the surface,and ignore the strut system practicality,Jiao Juyin is not,in the < punishment > and their performance on the < thunderstorm > > two articles Jiao Juyin clarify stanislav system theory in detail,also pay attention to play practice,strut system into practice of his drama director,stanislav base drama theory practice in Guilin drama stage.The second chapter discusses Jiao Juyin's theatrical practice in Guilin cultural city.The period of Guilin cultural city was the beginning of Jiao Juyin's career as a director.The drama performances such as one year,thunderstorm,late Ming dynasty and three brothers,directed by Jiao Juyin,caused a sensation in the whole Guilin and achieved good performance effects,which played a role in rallying the people and promoting the Anti-Japanese War."One year" is a drama performed by Guilin theater circle to raise fund for "national salvation daily".The performance was very successful and evoked warm response,which promoted the determination of people in southwest China to fight against Japanese aggression.This is jiao's first time directing a play.After that,the successful performances of thunderstorm,the last hatred of the Ming dynasty and three brothers shaped the image of Jiao Juyin as a drama director.In the practice of drama directing,Jiao Juyin constantly summarized the practical experience of directing and gradually formed his own theoretical system of directing.The third chapter discusses the relationship between Jiao Juyin and Guilin cultural city.On the one hand,Jiao Juyin contributed outstanding reform theories of GUI opera to Guilin cultural city,cultivated a batch of talent of GUI opera performance,directed a batch of successful drama works,and improved the artistic quality of Anti-Japanese War drama in Guilin cultural city from both theoretical and practical aspects.On the other hand,Guilin cultural city is an important stage of Jiao Juyin's drama career,which provides a good stage for Jiao Juyin's drama directorpractice,and makes Jiao Juyin's drama theory get strong support from his drama practice,and lays a solid foundation for Jiao Juyin's later more important drama career.The conclusion points out that the period of Guilin cultural city is an important stage of Jiao Juyin's drama career.In this period,Jiao Juyin had a good performance in both the theory and practice of drama.It is the rich accumulation of Guilin period that laid the theoretical and practical foundation for the later unique school of director Jiao Juyin.The study of Jiao Juyin in Guilin period is of great significance not only to the study of Jiao Juyin,but also to the study of the formation and development of the school of directing by Jiao Juyin.
