In recent years,more and more attention has been paid to English education in China.English assignment is also one of the concerns of English education.As the extension and development of English class,English assignment plays an important role in both teachers' teaching and students' learning.At present,English assignment has its disadvantages in form,content and goal.In view of this situation,the aim of this study is to arouse students' enthusiasm,improve the quality of English assignment and improve their English learning ability by using the theory of multiple intelligences to guide the design of English assignment.In this study,26 English teachers from three middle schools were interviewed,and300 junior high school students from two middle schools were investigated by questionnaire.The purpose of this study is to understand the problems existing in English assignment and the application of multiple intelligences theory in education and teaching.Through investigation and analysis,it is concluded that,(1)at present,the type of assignment is single,and the content of assignment is to be rich;(2)At present,there is a large amount of English class assignment,which is based on the content of the writing,and the improvement of the two skills is not obvious.(3)The students are not interested in English assignment which is not closely associated with the students' daily life,but the students have a strong curiosity about the various types of English assignment.(4)The theory of multiple intelligences was not applied by teachers in teaching comprehensively.The purpose of this study is to enrich the type of assignment,and to train student's eight kinds of intelligences.Teachers should respect the students' individual differences and promote the development of their individuality when teachers design English assignment.Through the design of English class assignment,the main results are as follows:(1)designing English assignment based on the multiple intelligences theory is easy to connect the textbook knowledge with the students' daily life.(2)The part kind of assignments require a higher level of students' comprehensive ability,so the design of English assignment should adopt to students' cognitive level.(3)The English assignment based on the multiple intelligences theory is beneficial to teachers to know about the students and provide effective guidance to the teaching.
