The Influence Of Cultural Intelligence On Cross-Cultural Adaptation And Satisfaction

The first purpose of this thesis was to discover the influence of cultural intelligence on cross-cultural adaptation.The second purpose of this dissertation was to research the influence of cultural intelligence and satisfaction.Satisfaction was split up in job satisfaction and life satisfaction.The research was specified for Western-European expatriates living and working in China.The empirical data for this research was collected from Western European business expatriates in China.However,not all Western European countries were represented in the research.There were no participants from Luxemburg,Monaco,and Liechtenstein.The other countries(Austria,Belgium,France,Germany,the Netherlands and Switzerland)were all represented.In total there are 124 participants(n=124)for the surveys.This dissertation uses a quantitative research method to obtain data.Participants filled out two surveys that were sent to them on the Chinese social media platform “WeChat”.Both surveys were conducted with the same participants three months apart.The first survey researched both cultural intelligence and satisfaction.Three months later the participants received the second survey.Also,in the surveys,participants had to answer the general questions mentioned above.After the surveys were conducted,the results had to be standardized and analyzed.The researcher used both SPSS and Stata to obtain the analysis.Firstly,the results of this dissertation focused on cultural intelligence and cross-cultural adaptation.After the analysis,they showed no statistically significant relationship between cultural intelligence and cross-cultural adaptation.Also,the four different types of cultural intelligence did not have a significant correlation with cross-cultural adaptation,according to the results of this dissertation.Secondly,the results of this dissertation spoke about satisfaction and cultural intelligence.On the one hand,satisfaction was looked at as a whole;on the other hand,it was also split up in job satisfaction and life satisfaction.The results showed a positive relationship between cultural intelligence and satisfaction.Also,the results showed that the four different kinds of cultural intelligence have a positive relation with satisfaction.Moreover,there was also a relationship between cultural intelligence and job and life satisfaction.The results also find a positive relationship between the four different kinds of cultural intelligence and job satisfaction.On the other hand,there was only a statistically significant relationship with motivational and behavioral cultural intelligence with life satisfaction.
