This is a translation report based on English to Chinese translation of the literary work Position Doubtful-mapping landscapes and memories written by Kim Mahood,who is a writer and artist.Chapters 5 to 7 were selected as the source text to practice translation skills and summarize the specific translation methods.In recent years,the related research on Australian Aboriginal culture has aroused many scholar's interest all over the world.The translation of Australian Aboriginal Cultural works has also attracted the scholar's constant attention.In the book,Position Doubtful-mapping landscapes and memories,by depicting her travelling driven by the childhood memory,the writer leads us to appreciate the charm of Australian Aboriginal culture and experience Australian Aboriginal cultural spirit,which brings us a new perspective of Indigenous culture.The report,under the guidance of cultural translation theory,mainly analyzes the difficulties in translating cultural elements and summarizes the proper translation methods so as to illustrate the degree of cultural translatability.The difficulties of the translation are mainly reflected in three aspects: how to achieve functional equivalence,translate cultural context and make cultural exchange.The report mainly adopts the following methods to solve the translation difficulties:(1)adopting the methods of adaptation,connotation and conversion to solve the difficulties of cultural elements at the lexical level;(2)adopting amplification and transformation of voice to solve the difficulties of cultural elements at the syntactic level;(3)adopting literal translation and free translation to solve the difficulties of cultural elements at rhetorical level.In order to realize cross-cultural communication,the translator combines cultural factors that are embodied in different levels with corresponding translation methods to prove thattranslation needs not only to reach a kind of linguistic equivalence but also needs to focus on the cultural communication.
