The source text of this translation report is selected from the book Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia,edited by Australian writer Anita Heiss.Published in 2018,the book is a collection of 50 articles by 50 authors that describe their own experiences around childhood,love,outrage and identity and which truly reflect life of Australian Aborigines.In this translation practice,the translator selects the introduction and 5accounts of the book,which mainly recall the true scenes and mental journeys of growing up Aboriginal in Australia from the aspects of childhood joys and pains,family relations and the discrimination suffered by Australian Aboriginal people.The source text belongs to the category of expressive text,the language in which is plain and readable,but there are still some expressions that are difficult to comprehend and translate.Based on the functional equivalence theory proposed by Eugene A.Nida,the translator tries to utilize the corresponding solutions to the translation difficulties both on the lexical and syntactic levels.On the lexical level,regarding the difficulties of frequent use of parallel adjectives,synonyms,polysemous words and culture-loaded words in the source text,the translator adopts translation techniques including "omission","word conversion","selection of word meaning" and "utilization of four-character idiom".On the syntactic level,to cope with the difficulties in translating long and complex sentences in the source text,the translator utilizes such translation techniques as "adding notes","managing the translation of dash" and "breaking up long sentences and reorganizing word order" etc.,aiming to accurately convey the spirit of the source text and achieve smooth and natural expression in the target language.This report consists of five chapters.The background,significance of the translation project and the layout of the translation report are introduced in the first chapter,the content and language features of the source text are summarized in the second chapter,the process of translation practice and the difficulties encountered by the translator are described in the third chapter.Then in the fourth chapter,the translator introduces the functional equivalence theory and tries to explain how to flexibly adopt the corresponding translation techniques to solve the translation difficulties.Finally,the fifth chapter summarizes the translation experience learned from the translation practice and the unsolved problems.
