A Study Of Simultaneous Interpreting For Live TV Broadcasts Under Gile's Effort Model

With the increasing attention of the public to international affairs,simultaneous interpreting for live TV,as a new type of interpreting,can help domestic TV audience overcome language barriers to get international information at first time.However,TV simultaneous interpreting started relatively late in China,and the studies on it are not abundant at present.Simultaneous interpreting for live TV broadcasting has become a valuable subject for further study.Based on the existing studies of the TV interpreting,it is found that the Effort Model is feasible for the guidance of live TV simultaneous interpreting by adopting the method of literature research.In the process of live TV interpreting,the main reasons for the mistakes are the complexity of working environment,the high density of source language information and the difficulties of effort distribution.This thesis chooses Trump's inaugural address in Phoenix TV and CTI News to analyze the common problems in simultaneous interpreting for live TV based on Gile's Effort Model.In order to minimize mistakes and achieve the best accomplishment of simultaneous interpreting,the interpreters can lower the loads of the interpreters in the process of Listening and Analysis,Short-Term Memory,Speech Production and Coordination and reduce the common problems caused by the unreasonable effort distribution,such as interpreting mistakes,loss of information and neglecting the audience's gratification when they adopt four strategies: anticipation,syntactic linearity,concision tactics and appropriate adjustment.This thesis emphasizes the importance of the effort distribution,which can encourage TV interpreters to attach importance to the effort distribution of various tasks,improve the quality of simultaneous interpreting for live TV,and promote the continuous development of simultaneous interpreting for live TV in China.
