A Report On The Translation Of Sci-tech News Guided By Skopos Theory

The Science and Technology News(referred to as sci-tech news later),as one of the news types leading the frontier of wisdom,has attracted more and more attention.Therefore,the translation of sci-tech news becomes particularly important.The author adopts the Skopos Theory to guide the translation of sci-tech news to ensure the accuracy,smoothness,and readability of their Chinese translation,and to realize the purpose of spreading cutting-edge sci-tech news.Skopos Theory argues that translation behaviors should be based on the original text and guided by specific translation purposes,and that one of the factors in determining the purpose are the target language readers.The Skopos Theory contains three rules: the Skopos Rule,the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule.The author follows the guidance of the three rules during the translation of sci-tech news.To realize the aim of concisely summarizing news content,the author follows the guidance of the Skopos rules and adopts the translation techniques of addition,omission and voice shift during translating the news headlines.The translation of news leads mainly follows the Coherence Rule.The author translates English sentence-oriented leads into Chinese paragraph-oriented leads with the combination and word order adjustment techniques,to ensure the translation coherent and logical.The Fidelity Rule is used to guide the translation of news body.With the application of restructuring and shift of parataxis and hypotaxis,the translation aims to realize the purpose of accuracy and faithfulness.In the process of translation,the author adopts appropriate translation techniques according to guidance of the three rules to ensure that the translation conforms to the reading habits of target readers.
