A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Sci-Tech News Excerpts From Newsweek

Science and technology play an extremely important role in the world today and affect our life every second.Science and technology news(sci-tech news)promotes the communication of science and technology through spreading scientific and technological information,at the same time,it popularizes scientific knowledge to the social mass,and accelerates the construction of material civilization and spiritual civilization.English as the most widely used language in the world becomes the biggest language carrier of dissemination of sci-tech information in the world.Therefore,English to Chinese translation of sci-tech news is important for the spread of science and technology in our country.This translation practice report is based on the author's translation practice of English sci-tech news during postgraduate study.In practice,the texts of science and technology section in Newsweek have been extracted and analyzed and more than 10 pieces of the sci-tech news,a total of over 12,000 words have been translated.Guided by Jef Verschueren's Adaptation Theory,this practice report mainly discusses how to adopt suitable translation strategies during translating to achieve the purpose of dynamic adaptation according to the text characteristic.This practice report consists of six parts.The introduction mainly introduces the significance of science and technology and the main structure of the practice report;in Chapter One,the background information,objective and significance of translation practice are described;in Chapter Two,a series of preparatory works before translating are presented,which includes references reading,the source text analyzing,auxiliary tools using and glossary making;in Chapter Three,the main idea of the Adaptation Theory and the relationship between the theory and translation are introduced;in Chapter Four,the application of addition,conversion and recasting these three translation strategies in this translate practice are discussed;and finally,a conclusion about the translation practice is summarized in Chapter Five.
