Research On The Coherence Mechanism Of Chinese Run-on Sentence

Chinese run-on sentence(Chinese sentence in chronicle style)is a kind of complex sentence with no or few conjunctive words,whose semantic relation is loose.Chinese run-on sentences have a big portion in Chinese complex sentences and represent the typical nature of Chinese sentence,so they should be valued by Chinese researchers and users.However,the research of Chinese complex sentence has weighted too heavily toward sentences with formal marks—conjunctive word,while neglecting this Chinese indigenous pattern of sentences.It is not helpful for development and deepening of the research of Chinese complex sentence,and will also confine the knowledge of Chinese complex sentence to few logical categories marked by conjunctive words.Chapter two of this paper is mainly about the nature and classification of Chinese run-on sentence.We state that not or little using conjunctive words is neither the sufficient condition nor the necessary condition of Chinese run-on sentence,but an important formal character of run-on sentence.After a comparison between Chinese run-on sentence and other Chinese complex sentence and English complex sentence,we define Chinese run-on sentence as:a kind of Chinese complex sentence formed by two or above minor sentences,which enter sentence by equal grammar position,without formal main axis structure,and its text viewpoints flowing with semantics.We classify Chinese run-on sentence into three categories:verbal ones,nominal ones and relational ones.Chapter three of this paper is mainly about the coherence mechanism of verbal run-on sentence,which is characterized by arranging text viewpoints and minor sentences according to the change of verbs.We introduce the concept of thematic progression mode and classify the coherence mechanism of verbal run-on sentence into three sorts:thematic identity,which includes verb extension and object extension;linear theme pattern,which includes verbal linear and nominal linear;and theme co-occurrence in the same scene,which follows up three threads(time,space,and mentality).Chapter four of this paper is mainly about the coherence mechanism of nominal run-on sentence,which is characterized by arranging text viewpoints and minor sentences according to topic part and comment part.We classify the coherence mechanism of nominal run-on sentence into two sorts:simple nominal run-on sentence,which has only one topic-comment structure,and complex nominal run-on sentence,which contains two or above topic-comment structures.Chapter five of this paper is mainly about the coherence mechanism of relational run-on sentence,which is characterized by arranging text viewpoints and minor sentences according to logical relations among things.Commentary relational sentence and compound relational sentence can represent the typical coherence mechanism of relational run-on sentence.After the studying of the coherence mechanism of Chinese run-on sentence,we review our knowledge for Chinese complex sentence:on the one hand,we must value complex sentence without conjunctive words,and widen the complex sentence enclosure marked by conjunctive words.On the other hand,we must attach importance to different expressive functions of complex sentence,such as narrating,describing,commenting and introducing,rather than confine functions to logical relations.
