The Comment Of Popper's Historical Philosophy

In the field of historical philosophy,Popper distinguishes historical determinism and historical indeterminism.And under the dual influences of falsificationism epistemology and the western liberalism,Popper insists the indeterminism thought of historical development.This view is opposed to the regularity and predictability of historical development,which is against the historical determinism thought.And Popper think Marxism is the representative of historical determinism.He put falsificationism method to the social sciences,thus with the non-repeatability of historical development and historical trends on logic of particular proposition nature to be the main arguments to deny the regularity of historical development;with the unpredictability of scientific knowledge increase and the "Oedipus effect" to the objectivity of predict as the main arguments to deny the predictability of historical process,so as to achieve a critique of historical determinism and historical materialism.Popper,however,does not understand the connotation of historical materialism and with an absolute precision of natural science formula rules and forecast standards to require the laws and prediction in the field of social history,which makes he ignores the complexity and particularity of laws historical development.In the horizon of historical materialism,there isn't exist unconditional universal laws of historical development.We also can't use the unrepeatable and contingency of historical development phenomenon to deny the nature laws existing in the development of history.And we have to realize that laws are diverse,historical trend is also a law of history.Similarly,for the prediction of course of history,Popper ignores the dialectical existence of contingency and inevitability,subjectivity and objectivity.The reason why Popper strongly opposed to the regularity and predictability of historical development is that he thinks the combination of historical determinism thoughts and social political project leads to the authoritarianism,even totalitarianism.He makes the social and political engineering with history determinism thought called"Utopian Engineering".Under Era background,the Marxism inevitably becomes the primary representative of pop criticism "Utopian Engineering".Popper is not only opposed to the Marxism about social being determines social consciousness,class struggle and state theory,also objected to Marx's analysis of capitalism development,and then promoted "Piecemeal Social Engineering" and Open Society.But,after carefully analyzing Popper's political philosophy,we can discover the essence of his thought is just the reformism of the capitalist society.Both Popper's historical philosophy and political philosophy are based on his falsificationism epistemology and methodology,so the comment of popper historical philosophy cannot leave the criticism of its methodological premise.Popper insists on the consistency of natural science and social science methods,while ignoring the distinction between the two kinds of science.These arbitrary boundaries of argument caused the contradictions in his political views.At the same time,the bias on the epistemological and the poverty of methodological individualism also exacerbated the severity of the problem inside his social historical philosophy.
