On Emoticons In Chinese Social Media

With the rapid development of Internet technology,especially the emergence of a large number of social media and its widely used,the time of virtual communication gradually increased,virtual communication has become an important form of communication,which beyond the reality commuication and can not be ignored.Because of the similar cultural background and the similar age level,the Internet users of the virtual communication have become a group with high internal homogeneity and clear external boundary.The small circle of communication provides the possibility to break through the constraint of the standard language.At the same time,the absence of the expression in the virtual communication calls for the emoticons.Since the emoticons,with the popularization and development of social media,it has become an important means of communication in the network,which aroused widespread concern and research in the academic circles.In the past,the research of emoticons,has achieved remarkable results in the following aspects:the classification of the network language,the advantages of expression language,the relationship between emoticon and language norms.However,the change of emoticons needs to continue to have new results,analysis,summaries.Based on the reference and absorption of the previous research,the research on emoticons and focuses on the following three aspects:the overall analysis of the history of emoticons,the characteristics and functions of the emoticons,the relationship between emoticons and language,which is a useful attempt.The above three points are also the innovation and value of this paper.In general,the article makes a systematic analysis of the development and evolution of emoticons,the emoticons in different stages were subdivide.Exploring the paralanguage function and language function,it is found that the narrative functions of emoticons have greatly expanded the linguistic functions of emoticons.This article probes into the relationship between expression language and network subculture,it is found that network subculture runs through the development of expression language,and there is inherent consistency with the category of emoticons.
