After the advent of "Ma Shi Wen Tong",study of the modal word began to get the attention of the linguists.About the research results,the study of modal particles in the pre-Qin and Han dynasties and modern Chinese is quite successful.Here,based on the previous research,this article attempts to discuss and research the commonly use and functions of mid-ancient Chinese.The article consists of the following five parts:The first part is a introduction,includes the origin of the topic,the concept of modal particle itself,the mainly meaningful results of previous research.In addition to that,in this part,the article also introduces the establishment of the tone system,compares the details of the dynastic division,and summarizes the reasons for the selection of corpus and the method of studying corpus.In the second part,by using search software to folly compute the modal part of the selected corpus,the research lists the frequency of use of a single modal word in the system,and sums up the whole commonly used forms of modal particle:"ye","yi","yan","er","ye","zai","hu","eryi","fu","xi","er","yey","yi".And then according to function(declarative?interrogative?exclamation?imperative)?position in sentence(beginning?middle?end)?occasion of counjucted use?we divide them into several parts,For each class in each of the modal words this part will carry on careful description analysis,finally sum up their regular usage and emerging functions.Such as "ye" mainly expressed the static things of the statement or description,but in the evolution of the process can also be used to describe the dynamic changes in things.From the diachronic point of view,the third part compares the modal particle of the Northern and Southern Dynasties with the early ancient times.It is found that the declarative modal system is basically inherited in the course of the process,and the emerging morphemes are given in interrogative modal system.The fourth part is from the synchronic point of view,and compare the differences of modal particle between the literatures from Northern and Southern Dynasties according to the different style and geographical.It is found that "ye(ye)" features with the characteristics of the Southern dialect.The conclusion part summarizes the research results of this paper,and points out the shortcomings.
