The Buddhism in kingdom of Nanzhao and Dali with an acclamation of ‘Remarkable Buddhism Kingdom' prevails.The style of imagery of Buddhas in Kingdom of Nanzhao and Dali has formed an unique imagery system and belief system.In the State of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom,the Garuda guardian imagery of kingdom of Nanzhao and Dali is the most special one among the guardian Buddhas system.After Buddhism entering China,the style of imagery of Buddhas has changed from exotic to local,which has formed the Chinese Buddhas imagery system.The Garuda guardian Buddha,which is one of the guardian Buddhas in Buddhism the Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,has an unique imagery and it was influenced by multicultural elements in forming process.It formed it's unique imagery characteristics finally.It focuses on the study of the Buddha statues,the Avalokiteshvara statues,the statues of the Mahakala,and the worship of the Lord in the study of the gods and statues of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom.Then,the study on the statue of the Buddha's patronus is slightly insufficient.In the process of shaping the system of the gods and guardians of Buddhism in the Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils,more emphasis was placed on the statues of the genus of the heavens and the dragons and the ministry.However,this theme of the statues has different manifestations in the Buddhist Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom.Besides,the imagery of Garuda guardian Buddha is particularly prominent in belief system of the Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom of Buddhism.Therefore,this article tries to analyse the historical values,scientific values and artistic values of the Garuda guardian imagery of kingdom of Nanzhao and Dali through using the Garuda guardian Buddha in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom as the focus,synthesizing history,archaeology,cultural relics,religion,field investigation theory and research methods.Meanwhile,it also illustrates the religious connotation of Garuda guardian imagery,and studies the special statue styles of Garuda guardian imagery of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom.First of all,it will clean up the discovery of the statues of Garuda guardian in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom systematically,and collect the images of Garuda.Moreover,it will summarize the general characteristics of Garuda statues,and sort out the clues about the style changes of the Garuda guardian Buddha in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom.Then,it will examine the identity of Garuda,explain the cultural features of the statues of Garuda guardian,and sort out the process of formation and development of the belief in the Garuda guardian in our country,especially the process of formation.Besides,it will summarize the characteristics of Garuda guardian imagery of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom,and analyze the source of style of the statues.Finally,it will discuss the reasons for the popularity of Garuda guardian imagery in Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom.
