The Warring States Period is a period filled with significant revolutions in ancient Chinese society,and also one with all the flowers blooming together in terms of the history of language and characters.The bamboo slips in the collection of Tsinghua university belong of the Middle and Late periods of the Warring States,including mostly materials about classics and history,and the characters are of rectification in orders,of clarification in shapes and of authenticity and vividness in writing materials,thus becoming the best original materials to do research in the field of historical characters.Therefore,the thesis regards “Yuegongqishi” in the The bamboo slips in the collection of Tsinghua University as the object of research,focusing on the 310 single characters which are without repetition via the method of infinitesimal conforational analysis.Based on the attention to the variations in font styles,it also researches the relationship between pronunciation and meaning and habits of using characters,trying to display its character configuration and word usages.The First Chapter illustrates in details of the following factors: reasons of choosing the subject,general situations of materials used,purposes and meanings of the research,and previous researches and research methods.The Second Chapter inquires into the inheritance phenomena in the aspect of character configuration in “Yuegongqishi”,mainly including four perspectives: the inheritance from characters of Shang and Zhou Dynasties,the direct inheritance from Oracle Bone Script,the inheritance from Bronze Inscriptions of West Zhou Dynasty and Chu Catena,and the inheritance from early Chu bamboo slips characters.It focuses not only on the inheritance from the aspect of configuration,but also on that from the relationship between pronunciation and meaning and habits of using characters.The Third Chapter probes into the variations of configuration from complication,simplification,dissimilation,apperception and synthetic deformation,all of which are based on the general principles of the Warring States characters variations,and also into the influences produced by the variations in structural forms on the the relationship between pronunciation and meaning and habits of using characters.The Fourth Chapter analyzes the newly-appeared words in “Yuegongqishi”,mainly including two aspects: font styles and usage habits.In the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the configuration,it also attempts to explain the reasons of their appearance and investigates certain undefined words.The Fifth Chapter discusses the font styles and usage habits with typical Chu features,and also relates to the integration with other catenas.
