Selected E-C Translation Of The Witch's Market(Part Two) And A Critical Commentary

This is an English-Chinese translation project.The first part is the English-Chinese translation of the source text.The source text is excerpted from The Witch's Market,which was written by the Chinese-American feminine writer Mingmei Yip and was published in 2015.The selected text includes three chapters: Chapter Four,Chapter Five and Chapter Six.The second part is the critical commentary,which consists of four parts: introduction to the project,significance of the project,strategy and techniques employed in the translation and conclusion.The source text is a Chinese-American work.It shows the typical characteristics of the Chinese and English languages and their culture.Under the guidance of Eugene A.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,the translation strategy domestication is used and various translation techniques such as omission,addition and conversion are applied in the translation process to achieve equivalence in the aspect of meaning and form,and the translator pays more attention to equivalence in the aspect of meaning.Besides,the applied translation theories and strategy are analyzed by the translator through detailed case analyses of some specified examples in this project.In the translation process,the translator further understands the Functional Equivalence Theory and tries to employ some appropriate translation strategy and techniques for the translation of the Chinese-American work.It is expected that some reference can be provided for similar translation in the future,and some good material can be supplied for Chinese readers to know and study both Chinese and American culture.
