In China, wheat, the second largest crop, only next to rice, plays an important role in ensuring China’s food security and maintaining social stability.Wheat diseases are major sources that influence stable high-yield and high-quality wheat.Diversity, huge area and serious damage of wheat diseases pose great threats to China’s food safety production agency.Li Changsong’s Wheat Diseases and Their Control in China(李长松等2014),which introduces the latest researches into wheat diseases, their control technology and practical experiences in production, helps to guide farmers to control, prevent wheat diseases and implement the integrated diseases management.Hence, this book bears great value for introduction to the West. After having read it carefully for many times, the author decides to choose the book as the raw material for the report. The report intends to study how the author finishes her translation of Wheat Diseases and Their Control in China under the guidance of the Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach to the Translating Process(李占喜2007)in the process of preparing, translating and post-translation evaluation. At the first stage,on the one hand, the author reads the source text intensively, refers to parallel texts and prepares necessary translation tools including specialized dictionaries,Tmxall termbase and online translation software.Meanwhile,in order to widely learn the relevant agricultural knowledge and correctly translate the agricultural text, the author has read many research papers on agricultural text. With these efforts, she establishes a detailed term database for her later translation. On the other hand, after a thorough understanding of the source text, the author tries to choose a sound theoretical basis for her translation. At the second stage, fully considering the characteristics of agricultural text, she uses appropriate translation strategies in her translating. The author’s translation practice proves the guidance of the theoretical approach to the translation of agricultural text and generalizes some translation strategies such as direct translation, direct translation with footnotes and direct translation with explanation or paraphrase. In the process of post-translation evaluation, according to her supervisor’s feedbacks and classmates’ suggestions, she makes the introspection, revises her translation, summarizes difficulties and gives some solutions in the translating process. In this report, the author summarizes the whole task, discusses the findings and spots out shortcomings to clearly understand her translation ability so as to make improvements in terms of language expression. This also provides some references for pragmatic translation.
