A Report On The Translation Of China Flower Industry Development Strategy Research(Excerpts)

This report aims to study how the author completes her translation practice of Peng Zhenhua’s book:China Flower Industry Development Strategy Research（2013）under the guidance of Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach（李占喜2007） in the process of preparing,translating and assessing.In the 21^st century,the flower industry,known as the“Sunrise Industry”,has been listed as one of the top promising industries.It has shown a strong developing trend in the new historical era.A full description is given of the current flower industry in the world,the opportunities and challenges faced by flower industry in China with its development measures in Peng’s book（彭镇华2013）.As the book is beneficial to our in-depth understanding of the development of flower industry in China,it bears certain value for translation.Therefore,the author selects the translation materials for this report.In the preparing process,with the aid of professional dictionaries,translation software and parallel text,the author makes the glossary of flower names according to the source text.In order to deepen her understanding of ST,the author conducts a review of the literature concerning it.In the translating process,the author carries out case analysis from the perspectives of“Discourse-Interpreting Communicative Process”and“Discourse-Producing Communicative Process”.After finding the optimal relevance to the original writer’s communicative intention,the author makes linguistic choices by contextual and linguistic correlates of adjustability at the levels such as sound,word and sentence.In addition,her use of appropriate pragmatic translation strategies ensures the cognitive consonance of the target audience.In the process of translation assessment,the author makes some revisions in translation according to the feedback mainly from her supervisor and classmates.In conclusion,the author finds that nominalization,passive sentences,non-finite forms and multiple short sentences are widely used in translation so as to ensure the logical coherence,objectivity and conciseness in ST.Furthermore,the author employs appropriate pragmatic translation strategies under the flower specialized context in order to deal with the main difficulty,the translation of flower terms,by applying translation techniques such as diction,addition and conversion.This report confirms the feasibility of Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach to the translating process of flower text.It gives a systematical description of the whole task,expounding the findings as well as its limitations in the translation practice.Moreover,it will provide some reference for future translators in the translation practice of flower text and enrich the pragmatics-based translation studies of flower text to a certain extent.
