Language ecology or ecolinguistics is a newly heated discipline that integrates linguistics and ecology. However, the studies at home associated with this discipline are deficient and people's understanding of this discipline lays at the superficial level.Even seldom have people translated related literature about this discipline with the theoretical support.Hence,it is quite necessary to translate the literature in combination with the translation theory. The Source Text mainly discusses the birth of the ecology of language and the interdisciplinary influences in Einar Haugen's ‘The ecology of language'.The author will adopt different translation strategies under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory(Nida,E.A.1986),such as addition, repetition and sentences restructuring. The author finds that this theory is applicable to this text. The author hopes that this report can raise up the interests among the general public. The author analyzes the language characteristics of the Source Text and figures out the difficulties of translation. Then she uses different translation strategies in order to meet the functional equivalence. The report also introduces the current studies of the ecology of language both at home and abroad, and it also discusses the studies of Eugene A.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory and the author's preparation within the process of translation.Case analysis will be the core of the report. The author tries to meet the equivalence at the lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level.During the translation process, the author discovers that Functional Equivalence Theory is applicable to this text. The author draws a conclusion that the word meanings should be adjusted from the context and long sentences should be split into several parts.Due to time, the lack of the author's knowledge and the difficulty of the Source Text, the report still has space to improve. The report is of great significance. On one hand, the report enables the author to know her shortcomings which might help her to overcome them and thus to chase her future career. On the other, this report also provides a reference to the scholars who are interested in this discipline. What's more,it also raises the interests among the general public about this newly heated topic.
