This report is based on the author's real world experience when she served as the interpreter at the 2017 Chengdu Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fair. The author analyzes this interpretation practice by combining the Interpretive Theory with her on-site interpreting practice.Altogether, four kinds of mistakes were committed in the practice. They are omission, misinterpretation, listening barriers and inadequate preparation.By reflections on and analysis of the interpreting practice, the author finds the causes for these mistakes and proposes solutions accordingly. The author believes that there are several reasons behind those mistakes. Those reasons include but not limited to the pressure the interpreter suffers, the noisy environment, lack of short-term memory practice, knowledge in cross-cultural communication, poor pronunciation and etc.For all those aforementioned problems, the author believes that the interpreter should reinforce short-term memory by strengthening the ability in his/her visual memory. For some tricky words, the interpreter can adopt the ambiguous translation strategy.Likewise, the interpreter needs to enhance bilingual skills in pronunciation, linguistic knowledge, vocabulary accumulation in both the source and target languages. The author summarizes what she has learned from this interpreting practice, and makes suggestions for the future.
