This paper selects Chapter 6 and 10 of the informative text An Outline to Chinese Culture as the translation object.Informative text whose language is plain and impersonal,mainly states objective facts and emphasizes the authenticity and accuracy of information.Informative texts have the characteristics of normalization and logicality.An Outline to Chinese Culture,as an informative text introducing Chinese traditional culture,contains a large number of Chinese culture-loaded words.From the perspective of relevance theory,this paper focuses on the translation of Chinese culture-loaded words into English.By summarizing the problems and difficulties found in the initial stage of translation,the translation problems are defined as follows: the inconsistency of conceptual meanings,the lack of cultural connotation,the semantic bias in understanding and the vacancy of corresponding vocabulary.To deal with the inconsistency of conceptual meanings,the solution of semantic explanation compensation is adopted.To deal with the lack of cultural connotation,the solution of semantic annotation compensation is adopted.To deal with the semantic bias in understanding,the solution of semantic amplification compensation is adopted.To deal with the vacancy of corresponding vocabulary,the solution of semantic substitution compensation is adopted.The translation practice and case analysis show that relevance theory has certain practical value in translating Chinese culture-loaded words into English,and the selected semantic compensation strategy has certain effect.The quality of translation has been improved to a certain extent. |
