A Practice Report On Liaison Interpreting Of Singaporean Designer

In recent years,with the prosperity of China's cultural and entertainment industry,people's disposable income has grown by leaps and bounds.People's consumption level has increased significantly,and they could not be satisfied with material abundance anymore.On the contrary,they pay more attention to spiritual needs in culture and entertainment.It has driven the rapid development of the leisure and entertainment industry.Therefore,businesses managers also have strived to improve their business environment of service and quality.This report describes the interior decoration of Garan Parkway KTV designed by Mr.Colin Seah,a Singapore designer accompanied by the author,which is located in Lanzhou,Gansu Province.It also introduces the problems met during the entire interpreting practice,and puts forward some solutions.In this report,the author first introduces the practical process of this interpreting project.In the beginning,the author analyzes the characteristics and difficulties of the interpreting task,and collects information related to task background,professional knowledge,glossary,and accent characteristics of clients according to the requirements of the entrusting party.The author also predicts the problems that people might encounter,formulates an emergency plan,and gives a detailed description for the interpreting process.Then,the entrusting party is invited to evaluate the performance of the interpreter.The author also makes a self-evaluation from the three aspects: the fluency,the accuracy of message and the completeness of contents.Next,the author conducts a case analysis on the interpreting text according to the Interpretive Theory.This report gives a detailed explanation on how the Interpretive Theory guides the author to deal with specific questions in the interpreting practice and how the interpreter uses such interpreting methods as addition,free translation,omission,conversion and sentence combining.It also summarizes problems during listening comprehension and interpreting complex sentence that the interpreter may met in practice,proposing that the training by combining note and brain memorization should be used in listening comprehension,and the syntactic linearity can be applied to interpret complex sentences.Finally,this report draws two conclusions: On the one hand,listening ability plays a dominant role to ensure the quality of interpreting.On the other hand,background knowledge holds the key over language or techniques in successful interpreting.Interpreters should pay same attention to short-term and long-term knowledge preparation.Lifelong learning and specializing in a particular industry offer a better guide to the future direction for interpreters.At present,there are few interpreting cases and reference materials regarding decoration and design.Therefore,it is expected to provide some valuable references for interpreters in the future by recording this interpreting practice.
