This report, based on the author’s experience of liaison interpreting at the92ndCouncil Meeting and Plenary Session of International Association of the Third AgeUniversity (AIUTA), discusses the roles of liaison interpreters, analyzes theproblems that the author encountered during the liaison interpreting and proposessome possible solutions to these problems.Firstly, the author took her own experience as examples to discuss roles that theauthor played during the liaison interpreting, i.e. the role of a member of theorganizer, an information transmitter, a conflict mediator, a whispering interpreterand a tourist guide. Secondly, the author discussed problems that she hasencountered during her liaison interpreting, including both linguistic problems andnon-linguistic problems. The author analyzed these problems through case study andproposed her own solutions and suggestions. It is hoped to improve her interpretingcapability through comparative analysis. Moreover, based on analyzing her liaisoninterpreting, the author made her own conclusions in terms of the theme of thisreport, found out limitations and proposed her suggestions.It is hoped that this report could not only deepen the author’s understanding ofliaison interpreting and improve her interpreting capability, but also offer someinsight to potential interpreters who might have interest in liaison interpreting so thatthey can better serve international conferences. |
