A Study On Words In The Peking Vernacular Daily

The Peking Vernacular Daily was a representative local tabloid in the Late-Qing-Early-ROC Period.In this paper,the 696 newspapers are organized into nearly 700,000 words of corpus.The corpus of 10,481 words is compiled with reference to the Beijing dialect,the words and phrases are organized into a corpus,which is taken as a research object.With the lexicology,lexicography,morphology and other theories are comprehensively applied to describe and summarize its characteristics and rules.Besides introduction and conclusion,this paper is divided into five parts:Part one is to list the syllables of words,the general word structure of corpus and some words have not been included in the dictionaries.It is found that the Peking Vernacular Daily has obvious characteristics of the Pekingese dialect.Part two is to dedicate forms characteristic of the vocabulary in the Peking Vernacular Daily.This part describes the phenomena of heteromorphic words,find examples of the phenomenon of dialect phonetic change,the colloquial and literary readings in modern Pekingese,which are proved by written literature.Part three is to find the structural changes of words in the Peking Vernacular Daily.It analyses overlap as a means of word-formation embodied in different parts of speech overlap,gives examples to analyze typical affixes,and summarizes the structure and causes of inverse morphemes.Words in the corpus show overlapping,affix and inverse morpheme,which proves the characteristics of structural changes.Part four aims at finding the special word groups in the Peking Vernacular Daily.By summarizing the same morpheme words group,the animal words group and the death word group,the conclusion is the distinct feature of Pekingese dialect and colloquialism.Part five summarizes the lexical features of the Peking Vernacular Daily.First,the most representative features of the Pekingese dialect.Second,the colloquial terms.Third,the flexible and changeable structures.Forth is the unique of researches related to vocabulary in early vernacular materials.
