Anhui vernacular newspaper was an vernacular issue which was founded by therevolutionaries of Anhui membership in the late Qing Dynasty. The areas where thewriters located were relatively concentrated. Thus language in the newspaper,especially the vernacular vocabulary, is very distinctive and has a higher researchvalue on the corpus. Therefore, this thesis takes the vernacular vocabulary of thisnewspaper as the research object. In addition to the parts of Introduction andConclusion, the thesis is divided into four chapters. Introduction mainly discusses theresearch status, research methods and significance of the thesis.The first chapter is thestudy on new vernacular words in Anhui vernacular newspaper.It mainly describesthe new vernacular words from three aspects: the new words included in the ChineseDictionary, the new words included but illustration lag and the new words notincluded. On this basis, this part sums up the characteristics of the vernacular newwords which are real-time, ethnic, variability and transient. The second chapter is thestudy on the homoatomic but heterotopic words in Anhui vernacular newspaper.Firstly, it carries on the quantitative investigation of the homoatomic but heterotopicwords in the perspectives of two orders co-occurrence and only one order. Secondly,the qualitative investigation are carried from the structure, meaning and the part ofspeech. Finally,it discusses the development of the homoatomic but heterotopicwords in modern Chinese through the statistics of this kind of words in The ModernChinese Dictionary.The third chapter is the study on the degree of disyllablization inAnhui Vernacular Newspaper. First, it investigates the distribution of monosyllabicwords and the double syllable words in the discourse. Then it investigates thedistribution of the monosyllabic words in parts of speech.The analysis shows thatmonosyllabic words can appear in verbs,nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions,conjunctions.On this basis, the monosyllabic words and double syllable words arecompared, and monosyllabic words are compared between Hangzhou VernacularNewspaper and modern Chinese.Finally, this part discusses the characteristicsof vernacular disyllabic in the late Qing Dynasty. The fourth chapter is the study on the Vernacular overlapping words in Anhui vernacular newspaper. Firstly, itdistinguishes the overlapping words and overlapping forms. On this basis,it makes adescription and analysis on the vernacular overlapping words in the followingperspectives of two syllables, three syllables and four syllables. And thecharacteristics of the overlapping words are also discussed. The part of conclusionsummarizes the previous chapters and points out the shortcomings of this thesis.
