The economic basis determines superstructure.Economy,the foundation of a country,also determines the social form,political appearance,humanistic quality and people's life living standards.Reading advanced books is an essential part of economic development.But many fantastic books and texts are written in English,translators are required to translate them.The Marketing Book(Sixth Edition),translated in this paper is a typical economic text.It is an authoritative handbook,aiming at the scope and nature of marketing function,its managerial applications and its contribution to corporate success.It is characterized by rigorous wording vocabulary,large number of professional vocabulary and abbreviations,and abundant long sentences,sentences without subjects and passive sentences.In order to maintain excellent consistency and accuracy between the translation and the original text,and conform to reading habits of the reader,this paper applies translation conversion theory by Catford,which thoroughly studies conversion strategy,and guides effectively translation practice.With the help of category shift,the problems encountered in translation are solved,including the translation of words,sentences and passage level.The translation experience will be summed up to provide some reference for later scholars.This paper is divided into several parts:the first part is the introduction,which mainly includes the research background,purpose and significance;the second is the pre-translation analysis and preparation,including the text type and related translation theory,and the language analysis of the target text;the third part is the main part of the thesis,mainly analyzing typical cases.Under the guidance of Catford conversion theory,linear translation,inverse translation,ellipsis and other methods are used to solve problems in translation;the fourth part is the problem and the deficiency,detailing the shortcomings in the writing process;the fifth part is a summary of the report.
