| As a discipline studying understanding and interpretation,Hermeneutics is closely associated with translation studies.The"culture turn’’of translation studies in the 1980s clarified the translator’s status.As a historical being,the translator influenced by the historical and cultural context he or she lives in certainly deviates from the original when interpreting and translating.The study on creative treason arises based on the researchers’ reorganization of the historical existence of the treason to the original and the study on the description and causes of the treason.Philosophical hermeneutics developed by Martin Heidegger and Hans-Georg Gadamer in the 1970s shook the foundation of the dualism of subject-object.Meanwhile,the interpreter’s subjectivity manifested itself along with the proposal of the core concepts "prejudice","fusion of horizons"and "historicity of understanding".It can be seen that philosophical hermeneutics and creative treason have a lot in common.George Steiner’shermeneutic motion based on philosophical hermeneutics gives a reasonable philosophical explanation for the translator’s subjectivity in translation.He divides the translation process into four stages:trust,aggression,incorporation and restitution to prove that the nature of translation is the translator’s understanding and interpretation by his or her subjectivity.Hence it is feasible to take George Steiner’s hermeneutic motion as a theoretical basis studying the translator’s creative treason.Bronze and Sunflower is translated by Helen Wang,a famous sinologist.As a children literature work,its readers are more particular than the adults whether in their age,cognition or language proficiency.Thus,the translator needs to make some adjustments,which may lead to deviations from the original to ensure children readers’understanding.So the work can serve as a good case for studying the translator’s creative treason.The thesis is to analyze how the translator’s creative treason is embodied in Bronze and Sunflower in the light of George Steiner’s hermeneutic motion by giving convincing examples and to explain the causes of translator’^creative treason according to the core concepts of Hermeneutics.The author finds that the translator’s creative treason occurs at each stage of the hermeneutic motion by adopting both theoretical research and descriptive research methods.The translator’s language proficiency,translation experience and translation views can affect high or low trust in the original and lead to free translation or omission.The translator’s inherent horizon like her views on children or cultural consciousness can force her to see what she wants to see and lead to adjustment,deletion,addition and mistranslation.Helen Wang adopts domestication and foreignization strategies at the stage of incorporation due to the differences of languages and cultures involved.The three stages above make the source text and the target text off-tilt and result in the incompleteness of the hermeneutic motion.So the translator needs to be creatively faithful to the original at the fourth stage of restitution to seek and restore the balance. |
