This is a practical report on English-Chinese translation, and the content of the translation is selected from New Zealand writer Margaret Mahy's young adult romantic novel The Catalogue of the Universe. There are sixteen chapters in the novel, and in this practice, the translator chooses the first three chapters of the novel as the translation report, then translates the original text under the guidance of Newmark's translation theory, records the translation process, and finally finishes this practical report. This report contains four chapters.Chapter one introduces the project.Chapter two describes the process of translation.Chapter three is the case studies. The translator lists the difficulties in translation, analyzes them from lexical, syntactical, contextual and rhetorical dimension, and applies translation theories and skills to solve them.Chapter four is a summary of the whole practice of translation and a description of the translator's major findings, limitations and suggestions.Through this translation practice, the translator realized that the young adults' literary language is not particularly difficult to understand, but it is not easy to translate works that meet the interests of readers. Therefore, the translator should not only be faithful to the author, but also take into account the expectations of readers,be good at applying translation theories, and constantly reflect upon and summarize them.
