Textbook is the carrier of a certain teaching ideology and a core part of classroom teaching.Meanwhile,it is also the effective tool for teachers to carry out teaching activities and the basic tool for students to obtain knowledge.English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011)is a programmatic document formulated by the educational administration in guiding teaching, and it is the guiding document for the compilation of textbooks. Therefore,in recent years, textbooks used everywhere are usually designed on the basis of the objectives and requirements proposed in English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011).New Standard English(NSE)textbooks, published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in 2013,are widely accepted and used. However,up to now,few researchers have systematically analyzed the current situation of NSE textbooks in different schools.Meanwhile, the analysis or research in this respect is the premise and basis for the renewal, improvement and optimization of the textbooks, and it is an important basis for teaching reform. So based on the requirements of language knowledge, language skill, emotional attitude, learning strategy and emotional attitudes in English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011),10 English teachers and 80 students in Grade Nine from an ordinary junior high school and the equal numbers of teachers and students from a key junior high school in Nanning were investigated in this thesis on the basis of Cheng Xiaotang's internal and external evaluation theory and Qiao Ailing's macro and micro theory. The thesis employed text analysis method, questionnaire and interview to analyze NSE textbooks for Grade Eight around the following three questions: 1.How is the matching degree between NSE textbooks(2013)and English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011)? 2.What do teachers and students in ordinary and key junior high schools think about during the process of using NSE textbooks(2013)?3.What effective and targeted suggestions can be provided for these differences?According to the text analysis and comparative analysis of questionnaire and interview, the following conclusions have been drawn:(1)NSE textbooks meet therequirements in English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011)in a general way,but there are still shortcomings in language knowledge, language skill and cultural awareness.(2)The teachers and students in the key junior high school are more satisfied than that of in the ordinary junior high school. The significant differences mainly reflect in teaching methods, time for preparing a lesson, materials for review and testing, the exercises and western culture, the length of a text, speaking and writing skills as well as the independent application of the language. Moreover, the results of Speraman correlation show that there are significant positive correlations between the contents and learning interests, between communicative abilities and speaking ability, and between language skills and the independent application of the language.(3)According to these shortcomings and differences above, some targeted suggestions are provided in this thesis.
