A Practice Report On Structure Variation Of Subordinative Compound Sentences In Chinese Translation Of Racial Cities(Excerpt)

This practice report takes the translation variation theories as perspective,selecting Racial Cities:Governance and the Segregation of Romani People in Urban Europe as the translation materials,focusing on structure variation of subordinative compound sentences,to explore the effectiveness of the relevant strategies of sentence structure variations.The source text in the translation project is an informative text,mainly introducing the origin and development of racial cities in Europe.The main feature of informative texts is to emphasize the authenticity,accuracy and normativeness of the information.This text contains a large number of subordinative compound sentences.Syntactically,there are certain differences between English and Chinese subordinative compound sentences in terms of voice,word order,sentence structure and composition.In the process of initial translation,there are many problems in the translation of subordinative compound sentences.After analyzing the initial translation,the translation problems are summarized and defined as follows: the inconsistent voice structure,the semantic information default,the non-corresponding word order position,the complicated sentence constituent,and the semantic expression difference.Therefore,aiming at the inconsistent voice structure,this report adopts the strategies of passive to active variation,passive to none-subject sentences variation;aiming at the semantic information default,this report adopts the strategies of semantic structure addition variation,semantic logical addition variation;aiming at the non-corresponding word order position,this report adopts the strategies of word order preposition variation,word order postposition variation;aiming at the complicated sentence constituent,this report adopts the strategies of sentence cuttingand reorganization variation,sentence coherence and connection variation;aiming at the semantic expression difference,this report adopts the strategies of negative position transposing variation,subject position transposing variation.The case analysis and translation practice show that the strategy of structure variation has certain effect on the Chinese translation of subordinative compound sentences,and the quality of the translation has been significantly improved.
