The translation of subordinative compound sentences has always been a research topic for translators. The current research about the translation of subordinative compound sentences focuses on science and technology, medical and academic fields, etc, among which the translation skills and characteristics of academic texts have become an important topic in the field of translation studies. The complex sentence is one of the characteristics of academic texts, which brings many difficulties to the translators.Under this background,I choose the subordinative compound sentence as the research object of this thesis. The original text in this dissertation---Multiculturalism and Conflict Reconciliation in the Asia-Pacific---was edited by Bradley William and Shimizu Kosuke, which was published in Sept,2014.There are quite a few subordinative compound sentences in this book, which became a big difficulty during the translation process. For the subordinative compound sentence, according to the translation practice, this paper analyzes the typical problems encountered in the translation process and puts forward the corresponding solutions. The study found that the problems encountered in the translation practice include: passive subordinative compound sentence frequently appearing, mixed component and complex structure of subordinative compound sentences. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes the following solutions: linearity translation, inverted translation, comprehensive translation, splitting and reconstruction translation.I hope those can afford some available ways for the translation of subordinative compound sentences in such texts.
