The backwash effect of language testing refers to the influence of testing on language teaching and learning.As a kind of language test,HSK is closely related to the teaching of Chinese.The purpose of this study is to explore the backwash effect of HSK on the teaching of Chinese in Bohai University through investigation and data analysis,so as to better promote the teaching of Chinese in Bohai University.This study combines HSK three-level examination with Chinese teaching for overseas students with academic qualifications.By using the methods of questionnaire,personal interview and classroom observation,18 overseas students with academic qualifications from Bohai University who participated in and passed HSK level 3 examination from May 2017 to November 2018 were selected as the research objects.Six overseas students with academic qualifications from Bohai University and seven Chinese teachers were interviewed randomly.The survey results show that HSK three-level examination has a backwash effect on Chinese teachers and foreign students of Bohai University.Under the influence of the cognition of the examination and the result of the examination,the positive backwash effect is mainly exerted on the learning content,learning method and learning attitude of the overseas students.With the differences among the individual examinee,this backwash effect has different effects on their learning behavior.In addition,it also plays a certain backwash role in teachers' teaching,which is embodied in the teachers' usual testing situation,teaching methods,teaching content,teaching attitude and so on.Therefore,both foreign students and Chinese teachers should make corresponding changes: for Chinese learners,on the one hand,they should improve their autonomy in learning,on the other hand,they should make full use of the learning resources around them to improve their academic performance;for Chinese teachers,they should strengthen the training of students 'reading comprehension,improve teaching methods,and do a good job of teaching feedback and summary.
